Magnificato San Pietro

Spanish Steps

Last day in Rome and Italia. Off to the Grand Finale...St. Pietro and Vatican.

Campo Fiori Square

Just next to the Piazza Navona, this square houses touristy ristorantes with some of the best people watching in the city. Here, catch Australians in sweaters, locals drinking beer deciding on which 'disco tecque' to patron, and Nebraskans (or Ohioans) in shorts. This particular eatery we settled in at is ristorante by day, enotech (wine bar) by night.

Respect

If I had ordered the 44oz bistecca, I would explode. Nice work. Man law.

First and Last Tiramisu of the Luna De Miele

Delicioso!

Pantheon Main Altar

We also have a really nice photo of the two of us on our digital cam, but no more wifi until returning to US.

Pantheon

Rainy and renovating, but still astonishing.

'St. Teresa in Ecstasy' by Bernini

One of the more powerful displays of we've witnessed on the trip, inside the small but ornate Santa Maria dell Vittoria church, this sculpture by Bernini depicts St. Teresa lying in pain next to an angel. Teresa has just been stabbed by God's arrow of fire, and the angel has just removed the arrow to watch her reaction. This instense 'sweetness of pain' was later described by St. Teresa as oneness with God in seemingly ecstatic fashion. For a 50 cent 'offerte' into a deposit box, you can 'let there be light' on the sculpture...one of the few true bargains in this city!

Discoratio

Every Roman sports buff wanted one of these to decorate his 'gymnasium'...not sure it would fit in with my tv room decor.

Roman National Museum- Boxer taking a breather.

Purchased the 4€ audio guide and was worth every penny. Took us through the empire's history starting in the throws of Augustus through 2nd century AD. All of Emperor Nero's portraits and statues were decreed 'damnatiae memoriae', hence no Nero statues to be found.

Trevi Fountain at Night

Complete with 'professional photographers' soliciting a polaroid purchase and rose peddlers.

Our third complimentary bottle of Prosecco of the honeymoon...

We are milking the 'Luna di Miele' for all its worth! Salute!

Roma Colosseo

50,000 blood thirsty Romans would have put a packed Horseshoe to shame. Funny that the politicians sponsored all Flavian Ampitheatre (Colosseum) events in order to gain favor with the masses...free is always good!

We'll miss Positano

A truly relaxed, beautiful and unique place.

Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius

Definition of a sleeping giant. Could awake at any time - short but very powerful visit to these ancient ruins en route to Rome.

More Triangles

As if you weren't tired of the theme already!!!

You know you're having a good time...

When Father Tim is clapping WITH a whiskey on the rocks. No joke.

Rainy Evening in Positano...

Makes for a good excuse to drink wine on the covered balcony and catch up on some R&R.

Ravello

Easternmost Amalfi town.

What a charmed life these locals have!

I am happy with my own hammock. They get their own private beach cove accessible only by cave (grotto). Different pace here, even in contrast to Florence and Venice.

View from our 'Libeccio Camera'

Although hidden away in Positano's 'uptown' (translation: youe legs will be sore upon arrival), our B&B comes fully equipped with a seaside view and inexpensive prosecco (champagne-like white wine) in the mini fridge.

San Pietro

The most famous (and expensive) hotel in the Positano area with legendary sea views. At 1200€ per night, that's one too many zeros for us. Striking nonetheless.
